Your wings were ready, Joey, but our hearts were not….
Our debonaire older gentleman of a cat Joey crossed the Rainbow Bridge at his foster mom’s home on April 4 after suddenly losing use of his back legs (most likely due to an aortic thromboembolism). Joey’s final foster mom — he had three during his time with Golden Oldies Cat Rescue — was by his side.
Joey was almost 19 years old.
Until he came to Golden Oldies, Joey had known just one home his entire life. Then his guardian moved overseas.
Joey arrived at his first Golden Oldies foster home on September 2, 2025. He was deaf and on thyroid medication, and he was a combination of sweet and spice.
Some of Joey’s favorite pastimes were seeking out patches of sunshine, leisurely outdoor walks on his leash and harness, and chowing down on some sweet grass. Joey also still had a spring in his step, batting around his toy mouse. At times he was a bit grumpy, but who isn’t when they’re almost 90 years old?! But he also could be very sweet, stretching out on his foster mom’s lap and even “grooming” her.
“He was a crotchety guy, but he was OUR crotchety guy,” said one of his foster moms.
Joey captured everyone’s heart at Golden Oldies, and he will be missed. Rest easy, our sweet friend.
