Want to be a part of our life-saving mission?
Golden Oldies Cat Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit founded in June 2016. We are run primarily by volunteers, which means we always are need people to join us who hold a special place in their hearts for our feline friends!
If this is you, there are many areas in which you can help. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization!
We have the following volunteer opportunities:
Adoption Coordinator – Do you love cats? Do you enjoy working with people? Are you able to steer potential adopters in the right direction to make the best possible placement for a cat in need of a new home? If so, you may be the right fit as an Adoption Coordinator. This role involves working with our Foster Coordinator to place cats in homes that give them the best chance at a permanent placement, coordinating with local vet clinics for any medical needs, and performing data entry tasks. Must be computer literate and have a printer/scanner and a cell phone.
Foster Coordinator – If you love working with both cats and people and have an analytical mind and can always think one step ahead, foster coordination may be the gig for you. This role involves matching cats who need to come into our program with the right people to foster them, counseling fosters as needed if issues arise and being able to “read” prospective fosters so as to make the best placement. You must be computer literate and have a computer, printer/scanner and cell phone. There is some data entry involved in this role. You will work closely with the intake coordinator, local vet clinics and the adoption coordinator.
Volunteer Coordinator – Are you a “people person” with a passion for helping animals, especially cats? Have it both ways! Golden Oldies is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator with people skills who loves to work with like minded cat people. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization and coordinating their efforts will help us be more effective. You will be reviewing and screening volunteer applications, identifying volunteering opportunities and finding volunteers to fill these needs.
Foster Home – We cannot save the lives of cats in need without available fosters. You supply the home and the love (cats MUST be kept indoors) and Golden Oldies covers any approved medical expenses for the cats in our care. We also will supply you with food and litter, although if you can afford to provide these items it allows us to allocate our resources elsewhere. We will supply beds, blankets, bowls, crates, toys, litter boxes, scratching posts/pads and treats. You will receive a foster packet and ongoing support from our Foster Coordinator. Providing a temporary home for a cat in need can literally save the life of that cat!

Board Service – Do you love cats? Are you passionate about animal welfare and advocating for cats? Have you served on a Board of Directors? Are you retired and have the time to commit to being part of a non-profit Board of Directors? Then we would like to talk to you!
Golden Oldies Cat Rescue, a 501c3 nonprofit founded in June 2016 to help cats 6 and older from Monterey County, is looking for enthusiastic, energetic and experienced volunteers to be considered for Board service.
Community Outreach Coordinator – Are you organized and interested in working from home? We need someone who can research and line up venues where Golden Oldies can set up information tables and ensure these information tables are fully staffed by volunteers. This person also would be responsible for researching local groups, clubs and other organizations who we can give presentations to, setting those up and making sure they are fully staffed by volunteers.
Tabling – We need volunteers to work information tables at local venues and tell people about Golden Oldies. This is a great role for an adopter or foster who wants to share their experience or just someone who is passionate about the work we do. If you enjoy interacting with people and want to share our story, this is a perfect fit! We are especially looking for people who can find, organize and work tables at venues in Salinas and South County.
Fundraising – We need volunteers interested in helping coordinate fundraising events, including an annual gala. We cannot do our work without funds, so this is an important role that allows us to continue our life-saving mission. If planning events is something you excel at, please let us know!
Grant writing – Speaking of money … we need a volunteer to take the lead on identifying new grant funding sources and writing grants. If you have a background in grant writing and would like to donate a little of your time, please contact us.
Director of Marketing and Public Relations – In order to save lives, we need to spread the word about Golden Oldies, our mission, and share our Happy Tales to encourage people to adopt, foster, volunteer or donate. This is where marketing and PR comes in! If you have a background in marketing and/or PR, we would love to talk to you.
Transportation- Sometimes we need help taking foster cats to and from medical appointments or picking a cat up from the shelter and taking it to its foster home. If you have time during the day, we can use your help!
Home visits – All Golden Oldies fosters and adopters must have a home visit and be approved. If you are a people person with an attention to detail and the knowledge of what makes a good (and not so good) home for a cat, please reach out to us.
Follow up calls to adopters – We like to check in and see how our adopted cats are doing throughout their lives. If you enjoy talking to people and listening to their stories, this would be a perfect fit for you.
Hang flyers – Have a car (or a bicycle?!), or like to get out and about on foot? We need people to post flyers on community bulletin boards, in veterinary offices and wherever else there are places these things can go! We make ‘em, you hang ‘em!
Assembling mailings – If you prefer a work-from-home gig, we always need help stuffing, stamping and labeling envelopes for our twice-yearly mailings (these typically go out in late February and the end of summer.) We provide all the supplies and you assemble!
Videographer — Do you love talking to people, have the ability to make them feel comfortable while on camera and have a “way” with cats ? Then we need you! We are looking for a videographer to take footage of adopters, fosters and their (often shy) cats, among other things. Videos will be used on our web and social media pages, for fundraising events and more.
Youth volunteers – Even if you are under 18 you can still be the difference in the lives of older cats! Put on a fundraiser at your school or as part of a youth group or club you’re involved with by collecting donations for Golden Oldies. Hold a bake sale. Make and sell cat cookies or crafts. Give us a “Like” on Social Media and share our posts. Use your imagination and the possibilities are endless! And, of course, foster; as long as the adults in your home are on board, you can make this a family affair.
