Why Volunteer with Us?

Make a Real Difference: Your efforts will directly impact our community and the lives of animals in need.
Gain Valuable Experience: Build your skills and enhance your resume with meaningful experience.
Meet Like-Minded People: Connect with a passionate community of volunteers and supporters.
Flexible Scheduling: Choose opportunities that fit your schedule and lifestyle.
Exciting Volunteer Opportunities Await!
All training is provided for each of our volunteer opportunities.
- Administrative Assistant: If you’re most comfortable behind a computer, this is the gig for you! Data entry, uploading animal profiles and pictures to Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet, submitting Public Service Announcements as needed to local radio stations, and other miscellaneous tasks are part of this role.
- Board Members: Help steer our mission and make strategic decisions that shape our future. Must be a current volunteer with Golden Oldies with at least 6 months of experience.
- Flyer Distribution Team: Help hang flyers to spread the word far and wide about our mission. You will be part of a team managed by a lead volunteer. Whether you’re driving, jogging, walking, or biking, your help in distributing flyers makes a difference.
- Fosters: Provide a loving temporary home for animals in need, at no cost to you. Golden Oldies pays for all approved medical expenses and supplies while cats are in foster.
- Fundraising/Events Team: Assist in organizing and executing events that raise funds for our mission. We hold an annual Mad Catter Tea Party and one of our biggest needs is for people to approach businesses to get sponsorships and silent auction items; people to set up and clean up on the day of the event; people to assemble silent auction baskets; and people to run miscellaneous errands.
- Gmail Message Monitoring Team: Keep our inbox organized and ensure smooth communication. You will be part of a team managed by a volunteer lead. Team members are part of a rotation, and each shift is 7 days. We ask that messages are checked twice a day and responded to as quickly as possible. Be part of the First Responders of Golden Oldies!
- Home Visit Volunteers: Visit with prospective fosters or adopters to ensure their place is a good fit for our older kitties. Home visits are done in person or virtually. We currently are looking for volunteers who live in Salinas or are willing to travel to Salinas. We also are seeking people with the technical ability to conduct virtual home visits.
- Information Table Volunteers: Represent us at special community events and regularly scheduled information tables. We have monthly information tables at locations in Carmel, Marina, Monterey and Salinas.
- Mailings Lead: Coordinate our twice-yearly mailings that go out via the United States Postal Service. You will handle getting supplies (envelopes, stamps etc. — all reimbursed), finding volunteers to assemble the mailing, and being the point-person for any questions. These mailings keep our supporters informed and engaged.
- Mascot Volunteers: Bring our mascot to life at events (suit provided!) and spread joy.
- Photography/Videography/Video Editors: Capture the heart and soul of our events and activities by taking photos and short video clips. We also need people to create videos from these photos and clips. Video creators must know how to work in Canva and Google Drive.
- PR and Marketing Lead: Develop and implement strategies to amplify our presence and impact.
- School Presenters: Inspire and educate students about our mission in fun and impactful ways.
- Social Media Team: Create captivating content that engages our online community (Facebook and Instagram).
Volunteer Spotlight

Meet Jeannie!
Jeannie was the only person who showed up for a presentation Golden Oldies put on at the Carmel Foundation in 2017, and shortly thereafter began volunteering for us. And what a find Jeannie was! She has been a key member of our team for the last nine years, including serving on the Board (she currently is our Secretary). Thank you, Jeannie, for all you do for the older cats of Monterey County!
