Rest in Peace, Joey
Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not….
Joey recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge at his foster mom’s home after suddenly losing use of his back legs (most likely due to an aortic thromboembolism).
Joey’s final foster mom — he had three during his time with Golden Oldies Cat Rescue — was by his side.
Joey was almost 19 years old.
This distinguished older gentleman came to Golden Oldies September 2, 2025, after his lifelong guardian moved overseas.
One of his foster moms said this:
“Joey was a tenderhearted cat who was stunned to find himself suddenly without ‘his person’ and in a new environment that was unfamiliar. He acted out a bit at first and did not want to trust; we gave him time. Once his health concerns were addressed, he calmed down and started to slowly trust again. Joey liked to be around people and would often ‘call out’ even though he was deaf and couldn’t hear the reassuring replies. He let us know that other animals in his sphere of influence were not at all welcomed or appreciated … he let them know in no uncertain terms. Old? Yes. Slow and frail? Not in the least!”
Joey was a champion napper who loved his heated bed. He also enjoyed seeking out patches of sunshine, guided outdoor walks on his leash and harness, and chomping on grass.
Joey’s final foster mom said he was “quite companionable and wanted to be petted and scratched, especially around his head.” He would even hop up on her lap and once decided to groom her by licking her hair!
Joey was a quirky curmudgeon of a cat that had his own way of being.
Joey captured everyone’s heart at Golden Oldies, and he will be missed.
