Rest In Peace, Snickers
January 8, 2001 – June 19, 2021
Snickers, who came to Golden Oldies June 11, 2017 and was fostered by Sue and Rolf Mudge and then adopted by them on June 22, 2017, passed away June 19.
He was 20 1/2 years old.
His nickname was Snickerdoodle.
Snickers was a handsome gentleman who stole a lot of hearts. He certainly stole Sue and Rolf’s!
Snickers came to us when his elderly guardian could no longer care for him. Her daughter contacted Golden Oldies.
We initially were told he was a lot younger than he actually was (honest mistake) and were scrambling to find a foster or adopter for him. We had an adopter lined up, but when they found out he was 16 1/2 and not 13 they decided not to adopt him.
Carlotta sent out a plea to Sue and she and Rolf took Snickers in to foster. THANK YOU, CARLOTTA. The old guy pulled a disappearing his first day. He was nowhere to be found. Sue and Rolf thought maybe a door had been left open and that he escaped.
Turns out Snickers was inside the whole time, hunkered up under a large armoire that had an opening he could crawl up inside.
This is what Sue told us in October 2017:
“Snickers has become Rolf’s shadow. Since he’s home all day, the two have bonded and Snickers follows him everywhere! Snickers sleeps with us in bed at night, a nice change since our (d…og) Martha is no longer with us. That said, every day when I come home from work, Snickerdoodle comes to the front door to greet me.
“I pick him up and we have a great purr and chortle exchange, then it’s to the serious subject of food. He’s an awesome cat and a testament to the great life he had before his mistress died … So grateful he’s in our lives, he’s loved and adored by both of us.”

Here is what Sue wrote to us Saturday.
It is with great sadness that I must tell you that Snickers, Snickerdoodle, has died. He had been wobbly and weaker these last few weeks, but still eating and drinking well, pooping too, though yesterday, he ate very little.
Today, he had some kind of neurological event, seizures, maybe a stroke, but he died peacefully this afternoon. He was 20-1/2 years old. We are forever grateful we could be his caretakers for the last 4 years, in fact, almost 4 years to the day. We loved him and enjoyed his presence around us. He loved his daily outdoor time, sunning on the deck, and doing laps in the backyard.
We’ll miss his presence.
