Golden Oldies Cat Rescue founder and part-time Executive Director Margaret Slaby sat down (virtually) for a podcast July 28th with Nisha Naveen, the creator of Furreal, which features local animal welfare leaders.
Nisha is from Sunnyvale, California and a student at Wilcox High School. She started Furreal about a year ago and now has published about 10 episodes.
Nisha says that living in the heart of tech central, where there’s no 4-H and few accessible opportunities for animal welfare education, she wanted to create something that connects her community with local rescues, researchers, and advocates. Through interviews and stories, she aims to raise awareness and spark meaningful conversations — especially for young people who might not otherwise be exposed to this work.
Nisha also has a website Furreal and an Instagram Page for Furreal. These include updates, adoption links and volunteer resources for listeners who want to get involved.

Episode description: "In this episode of Furreal, I sit down with Margaret Slaby, founder and Executive Director of Golden Oldies Cat Rescue, a nonprofit based in Monterey County, California dedicated to rehoming senior cats into loving, forever homes. We talk about what it means to give older cats their “golden years” with dignity, the power of community in rescue work, and how Margaret has built an organization that supports animals and adopters long after the adoption is complete."
