Getting old can be lonely. So, what better source of comfort and companionship for a senior citizen than an older cat? Someone to sit on the couch and watch television or read with. Someone to talk to. Someone to take care of.
But with the ever-increasing cost of veterinary care, pet ownership can be expensive.
The Seniors Saving Seniors Program offered through Golden Oldies Cat Rescue can help with that. When financial concerns are a barrier to adoption, this program — for those 65 and older who adopt a cat 11 and older from us – can help.
The program is tailored to each individual adopter. Coverage is for the lifetime of the cat if it remains with its original adopter.
The program can include:
- Waived adoption fees
- Waived surrender fees if cats need to come back to us
- Assistance with veterinary care costs, including wellness exams, diagnostics, and emergency care
- Prescription food and medications
Chester, a 16 ½ year old orange tabby, is one of our Seniors Saving Seniors cats.
Poor Chester’s story is a nightmare. This sweet, gentle boy was found — mostly starved and dehydrated — trapped in the house with his deceased owner’s body. He might have been there alone for over a week. He was so traumatized, he wouldn’t let anyone approach him and had to be lured to safety with food. After decompressing with a kind foster, Chester was adopted (for the 3rd time) as a Seniors Saving Seniors cat.
His senior adopter is head over heels in love with this gentle, shy boy! And it’s all thanks to our generous donors who support this program!
