On Valentine’s Day 2020, Golden Oldies Cat Rescue shared a love story that was 12 months in the making.
Rusty, a 12-year-old female brown and rust cat, came to Golden Oldies on February 21, 2019. One day later, she was matched with her perfect foster mom: Marilyn. Marilyn was almost 84 years old at the time and living in Pacific Grove on a limited income.
Rusty was a timid girl with beautiful bright green eyes who blossomed with Marilyn’s companionship. They were a perfect match! But Marilyn could not afford to adopt Rusty and take on the cost of her care. So, we created the Matchmaker Fund!
Marilyn and Rusty were not able to make it official until August 2020 due to the pandemic. Rusty lived out her life with Marilyn and Golden Oldies paid all expenses for her care, including food, litter, and vet visits. And when the time came for Marilyn to say goodbye to Rusty on February 17, 2023, we paid for her euthanasia.
