Margaret is the founder and part-time Director. She is a Monterey native and worked for 20 years as a newspaper journalist in the San Joaquin Valley. After leaving the newspaper industry, Margaret pursued a lifelong love of animals working for a daycare/boarding facility for dogs and cats. She also ran her own pet sitting and dog walking business.
In October 2013 she returned to the Monterey Peninsula and worked as an animal care technician at the SPCA for Monterey County. While working at the SPCA, she began dreaming of starting a rescue for older cats. The desire to make that dream a reality became even stronger in April 2016 when she helped an 11-year-old orange polydactyl named Punkin find a home. Punky, who is Golden Oldies’ mascot, was her final incentive. She gathered a group of people who shared her vision of new beginnings for older cats. Golden Oldies Cat Rescue was founded in June 2016.
Margaret lives in Monterey with her four rescue cats and shares guardianship of a golden retriever.
