Margaret Slaby
Margaret is the founder and part-time Director. She is a Monterey native and worked for 20 years as a newspaper journalist in the San Joaquin Valley. After leaving the newspaper industry, Margaret pursued a lifelong love of animals working for a daycare/boarding facility for dogs and cats. She also ran her own pet sitting and dog walking business and was accompanied on many adventures by her beloved Golden Retriever, Kayden, who died April 23, 2021 at age 11 1/2.
In October 2013 Margaret returned to the Monterey Peninsula with Kayden and worked as an animal care technician at the SPCA for Monterey County. While working at the SPCA, she began dreaming of starting a rescue for older cats. When she left the SPCA, she gathered a group of people who shared this vision of new beginnings for older cats. Golden Oldies Cat Rescue was founded in June 2016.
Margaret lives in Monterey with her rescue cats Lucky Bear, Flumpy, Buggy and Weedy and shares guardianship of a sassy but sweet Border Collie named Shanti.
