Polo, a 16 year old Maine Coon mix, got his second chance! He’s been adopted by the woman who fostered him. Another “foster failure”. We love it!
Below is Polo’s story in the words of his foster — and now adoptive — mom:
“I love Maine Coon cats. My own big beautiful Maine of 10 years died last year. So there listed on the Golden Oldies’ website was Polo, a Maine Coon mix desperately needing a home. His owner had to move very soon and couldn’t take him with her so the clock was ticking. He was 16 years old. Who was going to want a cat that age? My heart reached out to him. I felt sure that if he couldn’t find a home, he wouldn’t last long at a shelter.
I knew I wanted to foster cats but I had planned to wait until I moved, got settled and set the place up before starting to foster, and I already had two cats of my own. Then came Polo. I kept going back to the Golden Oldies’ web page to see if anyone had volunteered to take him. Time was running out for Polo, so it was now or never. The timing was inconvenient for me but likely terminal for Polo, so I pushed aside my hesitation and said I’d take him.
He is so calm and friendly. His meows and chirps are very expressive like he’s having a conversation with me. I was delighted with him! I wanted to see how the other cats would get along but in my heart of hearts I knew I wanted to give him a forever home. I took him in for his sake, so he could have a home as long as he needed one, so his remaining time is in safety and contentment … but I can already see that his friendly and mellow demeanor will repay me many times over.”
