This is the story of Oliver and Blackie.
There’s something so heartwarming about a 15-year-old boy adopting a 12-year-old cat.
Oliver was looking to adopt a cat – a black cat, at that — and saw Blackie on the Golden Oldies website. He fell in love, and a week later — in April of 2017 — adopted him. This cutie, who turned 13 in may 2017, was living in Greenfield with his guardian, who needed to rehome him because she felt she could not give this love bug the amount of attention he needed.
When we asked Oliver why he adopted a senior cat, he replied, “I wanted a black cat for a long time and my mom didn’t want a kitten. A friend told me about Golden Oldies so I went to their website. There was a photo of Blackie, who was 12 years old, and my mom agreed we could adopt him.”
And what does Oliver find special and endearing? “He’s cuddly, quiet and playful. He is very loving and really sweet. I’ve had him for two months now and he is really starting to warm up to people. This morning when I was eating breakfast, he came to the table and as I lifted my hand to eat, Blackie put his paw on my arm!”
These two have become best buddies.
“He’s quiet and really easy to take care of. With an older cat, you already know what his personality is as opposed to getting a kitten and you don’t know how it’s going to turn out! Blackie is a really sweet and mellow cat. I love him.”
